BEDROCK GEOTHERMAL

In bedrock-hosted geothermal systems, fluid circulates through fracture systems in otherwise low permeability rock.

Our expertise lies in characterization of these permeable systems from drillcore and outcrop allowing,

  • Computation of stochiastic fracture distributions at reservoir scale, and from these, permeability tensors

  • Computation of slip tendency of existing faults and fractures ie. the potential for seismicity to be generated during drilling

Through partnerships we are also able to develop thermo-hydro-mechanically-coupled models (THMC) of fluid and heat distributions in the subsurface, which are required to determine long term resource potential and the effects of exploitation.
